Valerie Collart has been working in the Photography Workshop with an upcoming solo exhibition at Viborg Kunsthal (DK). A cohesive journey through six interconnected rooms, where a dialogue between photography and sculpture unfolds into a surreal, immersive landscape.

July 2026

The works explore cultural memory: how the past lingers in the present, how images migrate, morph and endure across time and geography. Deliberately ambiguous, they resist categorisation as either historical or contemporary, existing instead in a timeless aesthetic realm.

This body of work crystallizes my ongoing exploration of suspended time and the female figure’s complex presence, and absence, within public consciousness. Both ancient and uncannily present, these draped and spectral forms float as surreal monuments, at once tangible and ephemeral. They evoke the eternal resonance of classical ideals while existing as ghosts of what has been overlooked. Through this duality, the series invites viewers to contemplate the paradox of visibility and erasure, to question what and who is memorialized, and what remains consigned to the shadows of history.

The entire exhibition is conceived as a single, breathing organism, where each element, whether sculptural, photographic or architectural, contributes to an immersive, dreamlike experience. It is an invitation to wander through memory, myth and the uncanny, where the boundaries between past and present dissolve.
