In the Past We Made History is an investigation that takes the form of an archive and focuses on strategies of remembering and bearing witness. The archive weaves fragments of memory of 89 locations that functioned as Refugee Asylum Centers and Emergency Aid Centers until 2018. It holds documentation of the architecture – buildings, rooms, and textures that shaped the frame around newly arrived people’s daily lives.

In the Past We Made History is developed by Tina Enghoff and Kent Klich in collaboration with Writer and Visuel Artist Anastasija (Nastija) Kiake. Consisting of oral history, photography, photogrammetry, and film installations, the archive forms a living tapestry as it continuously opens itself up to change and transformation.
With help from Textile Designer, Ulla Enghoff, Kent Klich and Tina Enghoff has produced a large textile installation, representing the different threads as multiple timelines that bend past and present as an image of the living tapestry. At the Danish Art Workshops they have made 10-12 textile banners – 90x600cm – with about 1500 photos refering to history and collective memories. The photos have been carefully selected by people/Danes with refugee experience and then applied to the textile banner with a Kløtzel sewing machine in the sewing workshop. An alternative archive is built.
The installation will appear as the center of the exhibition at Fotografisk Center, Jan. – Apr. 2025.
