Born in Van, eastern part of Turkey, Erdal Bilici is an artist based in Copenhagen. His practice investigates how logics of the image permeates our mundane reality, and how perceptual technologies mediate our understandings of place, property, history, nature, and biography.
Bilicis videos, installations, photographs, sculptures, texts, and sounds often combine cinematic and photographic tropes, 3D animated imagery, and objects and signs from daily life, elaborating how representation is always tied to desire and idealization, and thus to notions of control, but also to connection.
Drawing inspiration from local traditions, remnants of architecture and modernity, urban landscapes, and spatial psychology he tries to culminate a poetic image of decay and cultural entropy as presentation rather than representation.
Erdal Bilici received his MFA from Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2024. He has been part of Jennifee-See Alternate, an artist-run exhibition space in Copenhagen, since its inception in 2018.
