SUMMARY:How to Lose Control
DESCRIPTION:Design talk with industrial and graphic designer\, Boris Berlin. \nThe Danish Art Workshops\, December 13. at 4.30 pm. \n \nThe work of Boris Berlin is characterized by a combination of experimentation and perfection. He insists on letting the material lead the way to the greater result of his design\, but he is not willing to compromise his overall idea. To let the material decide for him becomes a poetic metaphor as he directs a critique at the whole area of European design for always aiming for total control. He sees this as a weakness – as an expression of insecurity. \n“I look to experiment with new technologies and materials to explore their impact on everyday objects.\nThese objects have their own individual stories\, which are part of a wider narration of the way I interact with and think of things. By allowing the materials to choose their own direction\, to speak for themselves\, I try to bring a novel twist to these ongoing and never ending stories”. \nWith this talk Boris Berlin wishes to address the fear of losing control. He believes in following the flow of the work and the ‘voice’ of the material. \nSign up for the talk by entering an email to tilmelding@svfk.dk \nFree admission! \n– \nAbout Boris Berlin \nPartner/Designer mDD\n KOMPLOT Design & ISKOS-BERLIN Design\n Copenhagen\, Denmark \nBorn in Leningrad in the Soviet Union (now St. Petersburg\, Russia) in 1953\, Boris graduated from the Higher School of Art and Industry\, St. Petersburg in 1975. He began his career as an industrial and graphic designer at VNIITE\, Leningrad\, where he designed a wide range of industrial products. \nIn 1983 he moved to Denmark\, founding Boris Berlin Design\, from 1985 working in Penta Design. \nIn 1987 he became a co-founder and partner of Komplot Design\, which has received numerous design awards\, among them: Dansk Designpris\, G-Mark (Japanese Golden Design Award)\, The Forum AID Award: Best Nordic product\, Red Dot – Best of the Best Award\, Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany\, etc. \nIn 2015 awarded The Thorvald Bindesbøll Medal by the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts for excellence in the fields of applied art and industrial design. \nIn 2010\, Boris Berlin co-founded and became a partner of Iskos-Berlin Design\, together with Aleksej Iskos\, who was earlier working in Komplot Design. The two have developed a shared philosophy of design and their studio focuses on industrial\, furniture and graphic design\, and it specialises in experimenting with new technologies and materials to explore their impact on design of everyday objects. \nThe geography of their clients spreads from Denmark and Sweden to USA and Japan including such companies as Gubi\, Hay\, Normann\, Muuto\, Light Years\, Versus\, Källemo\, Blå Station\, Zero\, Tendo\, Stylex and so forth. \nKomplot Design’s and Iskos-Berlin Design’s works are represented in collections of several design museums around the world\, among them: Design Museum Denmark\, Die Neue Sammlung – The International Design Museum Munich\, Museum of Modern Art\, New York\, etc. \nBoris Berlin has curated and designed several design exhibitions and participated in many of them. He has taught a number of master classes in design schools.

DESCRIPTION:Open Studio hos arbejdende kunstner\, Peter Frimand\nStatens Værksteder for Kunst\, Formeriet plan 1\, 14. december 2016 kl. 16.30 \n \n“Gennem de sidste år har forholdet mellem synlighed og usynlighed interesseret mig. Med afsæt i en teologisk og kunsthistorisk optik har jeg lavet værker\, der fremstiller noget uafbilledligt\, forestillet og imaginært\, men dog tilstedeværende og virkeligt. Det har jeg arbejdet med i skulpturer og installationer\, der stiller spørgsmål til den samtidige tilstedeværelse af synlighed og usynlighed\, mellem billedforbud og repræsentation”. \nKig indenfor i Peter Frimands univers\, der for øjeblikket centrerer sig om en soloudstilling hos Kunsthal Nord. Udgangspunktet for arbejdet med udstillingen er to sideløbende spor\, der begge har at gøre med historie\, tid og erindring.
