SUMMARY:Exhibition Foyer: Michael Antrobus
DESCRIPTION:UNION \n10 June – 31 July 2022 \nThe project is a partnership between industry and craftsmanship; Combining a specialist factory made stainless steel extrusion with self made tooling to produce a range of furniture items with distinctive graphic profiles. \nMichael Antrobus in the Metal Workshop\nTables in the making\nChair and stool in the making\nEach item in the collection relies on a rational framework composed of horizontal elements held between half round extrusions that are offset along parallel lines. The metal components have been produced using a combination of heat bending with a self made jig and cold forming with a manually operated bar bender. \nThe slender tabletops are made from veneered panels\, faced with solid wood. The canvas and leather elements have been cut\, finished and fitted by hand. The full collection consists of a lounge chair\, stool\, side table and coffee table. \nGrand opening: 10 June 2022 at 5pm \n– \nMichael Antrobus is a British designer based in Copenhagen. He founded his studio in 2021 with a focus on furniture\, lighting and accessories. His work is led by a hands on\, analytical approach to making\, that fuses a broad understanding of materials and production to create objects that are both functional and intriguing. \nHe previously worked for the sculptor Antony Gormley\, London based designer Tom Dixon and the Danish porcelain brand Royal Copenhagen. \nHe has been commissioned to create work for Phillips De Pury and Company\, The Victoria and Albert Museum and the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts.

SUMMARY:Design talk: Kathryn Larsen aka The Seaweed Girl
DESCRIPTION:Natural Building Materials\nAs we speak\, Kathryn is finalizing her thesis in architecture from TU Delft Holland. Her work revolves around material research\, inspired by traditional Danish and Japanese architecture. Fascinated by building traditions and rare construction techniques of the past\, she specializes in natural building materials and creates experimental art installations. \nMost notably\, her research focuses on how seaweed and seagrass can be used in architecture. Her 2018 thesis\, Seaweed Thatch Reimagined was nominated as a finalist for several awards\, most notably the 2020 SDG Copenhagen Tech Award’s People’s Choice. In 2021\, her collective design and architecture work with eelgrass and kelp was a finalist for the 2021 Green Concept Award\, and her project “Kombu Leather” was a top 5 finalist for the Research category of the SDG Copenhagen Tech Award. \nOn 15 June 2022 from 4.30 – 6pm Kathryn will talk about her research based practice with natural building materials\, more specifically her experiments with seaweed and seagrass in architecture and art installations. \nAddress:\nThe Danish Art Workshops / Statens Værksteder for Kunst\, level 4\nStrandgade 27B\n1401 Copenhagen K \nRSVP: tilmelding@svfk.dk \nThe talk will be livestreamed through our Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/statensvaerksteder \n \n  \nAbout Kathryn Larsen \nBorn and raised in the US\, but is now based in The Netherlands and Denmark. She combines her practical architectural technologist education with a tactile design process that involves sketching\, drawing by hand\, and material experimentation. \nTop image by Sarah Tulaj
